American Legion Baseball Sub-State 3 Tourney to be Held at Joe Schleper Baseball Stadium
By Bill Schleper
Joe Schleper Baseball Stadium will play host to yet another prominent tournament this coming week in Shakopee, as the American Legion Sub-State Tourney will be hosted by Shakopee’s Post 2 Legion Baseball team from July 22 through 27. The winner will advance to the American Legion State Tournament.
Shakopee’s Post 2 Legion ballclub is seeded #1 in Sub-State 3 and will take on the winner of the play-in game between Delano and Armstrong, which will be played Monday evening in Delano. Shakopee will host the winner of that game on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. at “The Joe” (Joe Schleper Baseball Stadium). Edina will take on St. Louis Park just prior to the Post 2 game, beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Other first-round games will include Bloomington vs. Minneapolis SW and Eden Prairie vs. Chanhassen. These games will be played on Wednesday, July 23, at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., respectively.
A Season of Continuing Success for Shakopee’s Post 2 Legion Team
This season, Shakopee’s Post 2 Legion ballclub boasts a 19-4-1 record and is currently ranked #2 in the state, just behind # 1 ranked Wayzata. Shakopee held the #1 spot for the past couple of weeks but slipped to #2 this past week after narrowly missing out on advancing in a highly competitive Gopher Classic Tournament—also partially hosted at Joe Schleper Baseball Stadium in Shakopee.
Coming off a successful high school varsity season, some big-time bats and arms have been major contributing factors to Post 2’s success throughout this baseball season:
Leading hitters for Shakopee this season:
Nick Johnson (.388, 3 HRs)
Kaden Olson (.377, 1 HR)
Ryder Peace (.347, 1 HR)
Leading pitchers for Post 2:
Tanner Heller (3-0, 0.280 ERA, 25 IP)
Carson Schroeder (1-0, 2.06 ERA, 20.1 IP)
Ethan Sauer (3-0, 1.12 ERA, 25 IP)
Shakopee’s Post 2 Legion team made the state tournament last season (2024) for the first time in 18 years and will be aiming to do the same this week at “The Joe.” The winner will move on to the State Tourney, which will be held in St. Michael from July 31 through August 3, 2025, followed by Regions in Fargo, ND, from August 7–10.
As the summer baseball season winds down, the playoffs will heat things up this week. This is a great opportunity to catch some talented young baseball players performing at the top of their game during the most exciting time of the season. Tough to beat this time of year in Minnesota!
