Eagle Creek Elementary kindergarten teacher Kim Neu has been recognized for her dedication to young learners by being named a 2025 Education Minnesota Teacher of the Year candidate. Neu, known for her commitment to fostering both academic and social-emotional development in students, joins a prestigious group of 142 educators across the state who have accepted their nominations for this distinguished honor.
“I take pride in fostering both academic and social-emotional development in young learners. By guiding them in understanding their emotions, forming relationships, and honing coping skills, I work to empower them to face challenges and reach future success in both academics and social interactions,” Neu stated.
Each year, Education Minnesota honors outstanding educators through the Minnesota Teacher of the Year award, now in its 61st year. The program recognizes excellence in teaching at all levels, from pre-kindergarten to adult education, in both public and private schools. Shakopee educators have a strong history of recognition in the program, with multiple semi-finalists in recent years.
An independent panel is currently reviewing candidate portfolios to determine a list of semifinalists, which will be announced in March. Following another round of evaluations, finalists will be selected, leading up to the Minnesota Teacher of the Year banquet in May, where the winner will be announced.
