A fundraiser has been organized for Keri Fiksen, a special education teacher in the Shakopee School District, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2023 and is still undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Fiksen has been a well-respected and beloved educator in the district since 2007 and currently teaches at Jackson Elementary School in Shakopee.
As her fight against cancer continues, Fiksen’s colleagues and friends have launched fundraising efforts to support their co-worker, demonstrating their friendship and respect for her.
Sabers Save Lives! #KF Fundraiser
The group is asking for the public’s help, with all funds raised going directly to Keri Fiksen and her family to help defray the costs associated with her treatment.
Jackson Elementary teachers and event organizers—Jen Larsen, Sarah Reiersgord, and Charlotte Leonard—shared three ways the public can support this effort:
1) Donate Blood on April 11
We are looking to fill 20 more slots for whole blood donations and 5 more slots for double RBC donations. Sign up here!
Fun facts:
Everyone who donates will receive an AnnieKCookie (donated by our very own VB)!
Top donors will receive a prize!
2) Buy a T-shirt

The organizers added, “On April 11, we will wear our T-shirts and pins to support Keri! There will also be jewelry for sale that day... Can you say teacher earrings? Yup, she will have a whole bunch of them!”
