The Jordan Hubmen basketball team has played five games in eight days. They started this week with games #4 and #5 on back-to-back nights. On Monday, the Hubmen lost 79-62 to a hot-shooting Glencoe-Silver Lake team at home, and on Tuesday, they were victorious over Hutchinson, winning 73-63. The Hubmen have five regular season games left over the next two weeks. Jordan is 14-7 overall and 3-1 in the Wright County Conference.
Glencoe-Silver Lake 79, Jordan 62
On Monday, Glencoe-Silver Lake came to Jordan touting an 18-4 record. The first half was up-tempo and had six lead changes. Lexyn Grof scored the first seven points for Jordan to start the game. The Panthers tied the score at 12. A steal by Owen Halvorson and a pass to Mitchell Schmidt for a layup put Jordan ahead 29-23. Then the Panthers scored seven consecutive points to take a one-point lead, 30-29. At the half, Glencoe-Silver Lake held a slim 37-35 advantage.
Glencoe-Silver Lake flexed its muscles offensively in the second half. The Panthers' halftime lead continued to grow and eventually reached 12 points, 67-53. Jordan fought back with a three-pointer from Graham Helgerson and two free throws by Mitchell Schmidt to cut the Panthers' lead to 67-58. The deficit was too big, and Glencoe-Silver Lake finished the game on a 12-4 run to win 79-62. The Panthers outscored Jordan 42-27 in the second half. For the game, Glencoe-Silver Lake shot a blistering 53% compared to Jordan’s 40%.
For Jordan, Mitchell Schmidt scored 21 points. Lexyn Grof tallied 17, and Brayden Davis added 12.
Jordan 73, Hutchinson 63
On Tuesday, the Hubmen were trying to build some momentum. A three-pointer by Graham Helgerson put Jordan on the board. Hutchinson took a 9-3 lead, and Jordan countered. Mitchell Schmidt added three points on an offensive putback and free throw. On the next possession, Lexyn Grof connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at 9. The Hubmen were able to find cracks in Hutchinson’s zone defense to score. Jordan led 33-26 at the half. Lexyn Grof accounted for 14 of Jordan’s 33 points.
A few minutes into the second half, the Hubmen started to roll on both ends of the court. Leading 44-37, Lexyn Grof caught fire. The junior guard hit five consecutive three-pointers—15 points in three minutes. The Hubmen’s lead exploded to 59-38 with 10 minutes remaining. The Tigers made some timely three-pointers, but the 21-point deficit was too much to overcome. The Hubmen won 73-63.
