Hubmen Prevail Over Watertown-Mayer, Fall to Top-Seeded Southwest Christian in Section 5AA Tournament

The Hubmen basketball season came to an end on March 8th. Last week, Jordan had an exciting playoff win against #9 seed Watertown-Mayer followed by a season-ending loss to the top-seeded Southwest Christian Stars in the section 5AA quarterfinal.
Jordan 89, Watertown-Mayer 79
On Thursday, the Hubmen gave fans plenty to cheer about with lights-out shooting and exciting defensive stops. Watertown-Mayer took a 4-0 lead before the Jordan shooters caught fire. Mitchell Schmidt nailed two three-pointers, while Noah Robinson and Lexyn Grof each added one to take a 16-10 lead. On the ensuing plays, Brayden Davis forced a steal and fed Jacob Conrady for a layup. Graham Helgerson penetrated the lane and scored on a floater, giving Jordan a 20-13 lead. The Royals responded with a run of their own, cutting the lead to 33-31. However, Jordan closed the half with an 8-1 burst. At the buzzer, Lexyn Grof banked in a three-pointer from 30 feet to give the Hubmen a 41-32 halftime lead.
A 6-0 run by Watertown-Mayer cut the Hubmen’s lead to three to start the second half. Three-pointers by Jacob Conrady and Mitchell Schmidt, along with a quick four points by Lexyn Grof, pushed Jordan’s lead back to nine at 51-42. Each team had a few runs, but Jordan maintained a 10-point lead for most of the second half. The Royals fought back and cut the lead to 71-65. After a Jordan timeout, the Hubmen outscored Watertown-Mayer 18-14 in the final six minutes of the game, securing an 89-79 victory.
Statistically, Jordan scorched the nets by making 32 of 58 (55%) field goal attempts. The Hubmen sizzled from three-point range, connecting on 11 of 18 (61%). The team also recorded 21 assists.

Southwest Christian 91, Jordan 62
On Saturday night, the Hubmen hung tough in the first half against #1 Southwest Christian. After five minutes of play, Jordan trailed by three, 16-13. Jacob Conrady’s banked three-pointer stopped a 10-0 run by Southwest Christian. With the score at 26-19, the Stars outscored Jordan 14-7 to extend their lead to 40-26. Southwest Christian took a 15-point lead into halftime, 46-31.
In the second half, Jordan cut the Stars’ lead to 10, 52-42, with an 11-6 run. From there, it was all Southwest Christian, as they outscored Jordan 40-19 to blow the game wide open and coast to a 91-62 victory.
