The Jordan Boys Basketball team came into last week with an 11-2 record and was riding a five-game win streak. It’s funny how fast things can change. Southwest Christian defeated Jordan 79-73 at home on Friday, and the Hubmen lost 86-79 at Belle Plaine on Tuesday. In both games, the Hubmen fell behind early and had to play catch-up in the second half.
Southwest Christian 79, Jordan 73
On Friday night, Jordan welcomed conference foe Southwest Christian Stars. A three-pointer by Noah Robinson gave the Hubmen a brief 14-13 lead, which was their only lead of the game. With the score 26-21 in favor of the Stars, Southwest Christian went on a 21-6 run to take a 47-27 lead into halftime.
Despite being down 20 points, the Hubmen came out in the second half ready to fight back. Jordan went on several runs to close the gap to 67-60 and 78-70. Despite outscoring the Stars by 14 points in the second half, Jordan fell 79-73 to Southwest Christian.
Four players scored in double figures for the Hubmen. Lexyn Grof led Jordan with 28 points. Mitchell Schmidt contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Jacob Conrady had 11, and Brayden Davis chipped in 10.
Belle Plaine 86, Jordan 79
Last night, the Hubmen traveled to play rival Belle Plaine. The Tigers came out aggressively and scored many transition baskets for a quick 13-4 lead. Jordan fought back and cut the Belle Plaine lead to 17-16 with a three-point play by Mitchell Schmidt. Belle Plaine capitalized on Hubmen miscues and took advantage of second-chance opportunities to extend their lead to 45-30. With 1:24 left in the first half, Jordan went on a 9-0 run, ending with Lexyn Grof swishing a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Tigers led 45-39 at halftime.
In the second half, the Hubmen took their first lead of the game, 47-45, with two free throws by Lexyn Grof. With the score tied at 51, Belle Plaine outscored the Hubmen 20-7 to take a 71-58 lead with 8:03 left in the game. It would have been a perfect time for Jordan to fold, but instead, the Hubmen regrouped and rallied to cut the deficit to 75-71 with 2:40 to play. The Tigers withstood the Hubmen's run and went on to win 86-79.
Jordan was led by Mitchell Schmidt with 28 points. Lexyn Grof scored 24. Noah Robinson had 11, and Brayden Davis added 10.
