On Tuesday night, the Jaguars hosted the Providence Academy Lions, led by junior guard Maddyn Greenway. The Lions entered the game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Class 2A.
Olivia Fynboh opened the scoring with a quick basket to put Jordan up 2-0. The teams traded baskets before the Lions went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-7 lead. Fynboh broke the streak with a basket at the 10:32 mark of the first half.
Providence Academy’s Hope Counts and Savi Borowicz exchanged three-pointers, and Fynboh followed with two free throws to bring the Jaguars within six at 20-14 just before the nine-minute mark. However, the Lions answered with an 11-1 run, extending their lead to 31-15 with 3:15 left in the half.
Jordan responded with four points—on a Morgan Staloch basket and two free throws from Borowicz—before Greenway knocked down a three with 2:19 remaining. Providence Academy took a 38-23 lead into halftime after Greenway picked up a loose ball and scored at the buzzer.
Greenway led all scorers with 13 points in the first half, while Fynboh paced the Jaguars with nine.
Coming out of the break, Greenway scored the first five points as part of a 7-0 run. Morgan Staloch ended the streak with a jumper at the 16:21 mark, followed by six straight points from Fynboh. The Jaguars' 8-0 run cut the deficit to 45-31 with 14:40 left to play.
The Lions’ Emma Millerbernd hit one of two free throws before Fynboh again made back-to-back baskets, bringing the Jaguars within nine at 46-35 with 13 minutes remaining. But Greenway responded with 10 straight points for the Lions, pushing the lead to 58-35.
It would have been easy for the Jaguars to pack it in, but they had other plans. Morgan Staloch converted an and-one at the 8:16 mark, followed by a three-pointer and a two-pointer from her younger sister, eighth-grader Jordan Staloch. Borowicz then added a basket, cutting the deficit to 64-54 with 4:40 left.
With two minutes remaining, the Lions' lead was down to nine, 72-63. But Greenway delivered two more baskets, sealing the game at 76-63 with 45 seconds left. The final score: Providence Academy 78, Jordan 67.
Greenway led all scorers with 41 points. Fynboh finished with 26 for Jordan, followed by Morgan Staloch with 18 and Borowicz with 13.
