It was an insurmountable task to take down undefeated Providence Academy (28-0), ranked #1 in Class 2AA and the three-time defending state champions, but the Jaguars were eager for the opportunity. Despite a valiant effort, Providence Academy would not be denied, rolling to a 99-60 victory in the section 5AA championship game.
Providence Academy 99, Jordan 60
On Friday night, Providence Academy lived up to its accolades and proved why it was the team to beat. Down 5-0, Morgan Staloch scored Jordan’s first basket, and Olivia Fynboh followed with two free throws to make it a 5-4 game. Providence then scored seven straight points to take a 12-4 lead. The Jags fought back to make it a 16-10 game, but every time Jordan closed the gap, Providence Academy responded with a run of its own, eventually doubling up the Jaguars. The halftime score favored Providence Academy, 61-33.
In the second half, Jordan struck first when Savi Borowicz was fouled on a driving layup and converted the free throw to make it 61-36. Providence countered with a 24-9 run. Overall, the Jaguars struggled against Providence’s feisty defense, quick scoring transitions, and efficient offense. On a positive note, the Jaguars outscored the Lions 15-14 in the final eight minutes of the game.
