Every spring, the Jordan Public Works Department flushes all the fire hydrants in the City of Jordan. According to Public Works Director Scott Haas, the purpose of flushing the hydrants is to ensure the hydrants are working properly and to clean the lines.
On Tuesday, May 20, two watermains went beyond a "pop" and experienced actual breaks. The break of the watermain at the intersection of Highways 282 and 21 affected two homes and a single business. These properties were without water service from approximately 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Krueger Excavating was called to make the necessary repairs immediately. Public Works staff assisted with the repairs by providing trucks and materials, as well as managing the water service shutoff and restoration.
The second watermain break occurred along Creek Lane S. The area of this break doesn’t directly serve any properties but is part of a loop system. Since it is not negatively impacting water service, the repairs will be made on a scheduled basis, hopefully Wednesday or Thursday, weather permitting.
Once the watermain repairs are completed, blacktop patches will be completed. The blacktop repair on Hwy 282 resulted in a closure of the section from Hwy 21. to Rice Street.
With all repairs complete, staff will call in a company called Water Conservation, which can check all hydrants and watermains for leaks. If any leaks or repairs are identified, Public Works will be able to schedule the necessary fixes accordingly.
