Jordan’s track and field teams delivered a strong showing last Tuesday (4/22) as they hosted five other schools in a crowded and competitive regular season conference meet. Delano, Mound Westonka, Dassel-Cokato, and Glencoe-Silver Lake brought full squads, while New Prague added additional junior varsity athletes to the mix. With near-perfect weather, the stage was set for standout performances — and the athletes delivered.
The Jordan boys team claimed first place overall, while the girls team finished a strong second behind conference rival Delano.
Leading the charge for Jordan was Owen Halvorson, who turned in a historic performance in the 300-meter hurdles. Halvorson's time of 39.24 seconds is now the second-fastest in school history, surpassing former all-state hurdlers Dawson Moe (2016) and Ben Larson (2019). He now trails only 2013 State Champion Cody Pelowski, who holds the school record at 38.84 seconds.
Halvorson isn’t the only Jordan athlete chasing history this season. Kierra Walkington continues to inch closer to a school record in the pole vault. Last week at the Cannon Falls Invitational, Walkington cleared 10’0", just one inch shy of Jessie Westman’s school record set in 2019. Walkington is coached by Makena Wiescamp, herself a former Jordan pole vault record holder from 2014.
A second home meet, The Jordan Invitational was scheduled for Thursday (4/24), but was cancelled due to weather. The boys and girls teams will be back in action on Thursday (5/1) at the Mankato East Relays meet.
