Pete grew up, went to school, and raised his family in Shakopee, MN and moved to the ‘country life’ in Jordan, MN in 2010. After graduation, Pete spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era, he was married in 1975, thereafter pursued a career as a meat Cutter for Country Club Foods. In 1983 he had an opportunity and took the risk of opening his own meat market in Apple Valley, MN. Pete started Von Hanson’s Meat Market, a small single location which he developed into a corporation of 24 locations today. He attributed his success to long hours, hard work, and gave his utmost respect and appreciation for all employees. Pete stepped down from his major role in Von Hanson’s in 2018 when his children Tony and Tami continued to operate the business filling his big shoes under his advice, knowledge, and loving support. He was a skilled businessman who was exceptional with numbers.
He will be forever missed by “Kath”, his high school sweetheart, loving partner and best friend for over 50 years. Pete enjoyed boating, cooking, fancy sport cars, and traveling to Belize. He was a devoted fan, not wanting to miss any of his grandkids’ sporting and dance events. “Poppie” as he was called, did not know the word ‘no’ with any of his grandkids and they simply adored him. He took pride in a well maintained beautiful green lawn, planted and shared an abundant supply of tomatoes each year. He was always very busy and active and said he liked to work. Pete will be remembered for his zest for life, positive energy and strong work ethic, especially for his exceptional kindness and generosity. He had a true passion for helping others. Anyone who knew this man, would agree that he was one of God’s special gifts in this crazy world.
Survived by his wife Kathy, son Tony VonBank (Jackie) and daughter Tami Lamusga (fiancé Tom Hartmann), as well as two adorable granddaughters, Mia and Maci, and devoted grandsons, Joey and Easton Lamusga and Carson and Brody Hartmann. Siblings, Sharon Geiger (Jim), Kathy Miles, Ken VonBank (Kathy), Margaret Stillman (Mike), Judy Metcalf (Mark), Joan Marshall (Merle), Bev Ries, sisters-in-law Jane VonBank and Cori VonBank, along with multiple nieces, nephews and so many friends.
Preceded by parents Eli and Helen VonBank; brothers Ron and Joe; mother-in-law Agnes Horeish; brother-in-law Gregg Horeish; cousins Doug Theis and Justin Simon, and infant granddaughter.
May his legacy be: his faith in the Lord, dedication to family, his kind and caring nature- great role model/leader.
