By Jesse Lara
As the federal Real ID enforcement deadline of May 7, 2025, approaches, residents of Scott County are urged to ensure they have the necessary identification to comply with upcoming travel and federal-access requirements.
Beginning May 7, 2025, individuals aged 18 or older will need a Real ID-compliant driver's license or identification card to:
board domestic flights within the United States.
enter certain federal facilities, including military bases and nuclear power plants.
Alternative forms of acceptable identification include a U.S. passport or a Minnesota Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL).
The Real ID Act, enacted by Congress in 2005, sets forth minimum security standards for state-issued identification cards. Real ID-compliant cards are marked with a star in the upper right-hand corner and require applicants to provide additional documentation to verify their identity and residency.
Residents can apply for a Real ID at the Scott County Government Center, located at:
200 Fourth Avenue West,
Shakopee, MN 55379
Hours of Operation:
Monday and Tuesday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Appointments are required for Real ID applications. Residents can schedule an appointment and review a comprehensive list of acceptable documents online through the Scott County website.
Scott County officials encourage residents to apply promptly to avoid potential delays, especially given the possibility of increased application volumes as the deadline nears.
