The Hub News is a nonprofit, non-partisan news organization dedicated to serving the communities of Shakopee, Jordan, and the surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide reliable, in-depth, and community-driven journalism, filling the void left by traditional local news outlets. We cover a wide range of topics, including local government, education, business, sports and community events.
Position Summary
The Hub News is seeking a part-time Communications & Content Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of our digital newsroom. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, digitally savvy, and enthusiastic about local news and community engagement. You don’t need to be a professional editor—we use tools to assist with proofreading, and editorial decisions will be made by the Editor. Instead, we’re looking for someone who can keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
This position involves coordinating with volunteer writers, publishing content online, managing our calendar of local events, scheduling social media posts, and preparing our weekly email newsletter via Beehiiv. The role is approximately 10–15 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Some work is remote, but occasional in-person availability in our coverage area is necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Receive and organize incoming stories and event submissions
Post articles, obituaries, podcasts and updates to The Hub News website.
Draft and schedule social media posts to promote published content
Maintain the community events calendar
Prepare and schedule the weekly Beehiiv newsletter
Communicate with volunteer writers and contributors about deadlines and submissions
Monitor general email inboxes and route inquiries appropriately
Support community engagement and digital outreach efforts
Qualifications
Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience with basic digital publishing tools
Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter)
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks independently
Enthusiasm for community news and a desire to support local storytelling
Bonus: Experience with Beehiiv, Substack, or another email marketing platform
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay based on experience.
