The Hub News Receives 501(c)(3) Status, Opens Door to Tax-Deductible Donations
By The Hub News Staff Reports
The Hub News, a nonprofit digital news organization serving Shakopee, Jordan, and the surrounding communities, has officially been granted 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status by the IRS. The determination letter, dated July 8, 2025, allows the organization to accept tax-deductible donations, a key milestone in its continued growth.
“This is a significant step forward for us,” said Ryan Dahnert, Board President of The Hub News. “Receiving 501(c)(3) status gives us the opportunity to build deeper relationships with donors, apply for foundation funding, and continue expanding our local news coverage in a sustainable way.”
The designation means that contributions to The Hub News may now be tax-deductible, depending on the donor’s individual tax situation. The organization encourages supporters to consult with their tax advisors regarding eligibility.
Founded to fill the local news gap following the closure of local legacy newspapers, The Hub News has grown steadily thanks to a dedicated team of content contributors, individuals who supported initial operations through voluntary subscriptions, and organizations who became founding sponsors. With its new nonprofit status, the organization plans to expand its reporting capacity and deepen its community engagement efforts.
